33. Lack of Creativity, Confidence, Energy - Contributions to Lessened Property Values

Creativity, confidence, energy -- more comments about an underused local old house. This house is adjacent to the remuddled victorian house I wrote about earlier.

This house is a colonial revival style probably dating somewhere between 1925 to 1940. The 1950 city directory indicates it was then owned by a physician. It might have served both as a residence as well as the site for a medical practice. Somewhere along the line of time it became a funeral business.  It is supposed that the funeral enterprise was responsible for the slapdash rear additions to the otherwise dignified and noble house.

Remove the surrounding pavement, have a landscape architect make a plan for trees, shrubbery, lawn and garden. Remove the additions. These would be desirable improvements adding profitable value for the present owner.

It is within walking distance of the k-12 school complex, hospital, library and recreation / swimming pool complex. Add to that vibrant churches and well maintained single family homes nearby.

These two properties need refurbishment and rehabilitation.

As commuting costs are a major household expense, it is likely that a person employed at the nearby school complex or hospital might want a fine architectural house and the convenience and economy of walking to work.

An owner without creativity, confidence and energy perpetuates  neighborhood mediocrity.  While the structures are not abandoned or blighted, they do nothing to enhance value for the community. They, in their way, contribute to  the overall decline to property values even thought they are not in an A and B status (abandoned and blighted).
